Tatyana Kleyn was born in the Soviet Union (currently Latvia) and migrated to the US as a political refugee at a young age. Her family was resettled in Columbus, Ohio by HIAS, a Jewish American nonprofit organization. She spent the second half of her childhood in Poughkeepsie, New York. Tatyana’s experiences as an immigrant and language learner paved the way for her to become Professor of Bilingual Education and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at The City College of New York.
